Specialty Services

Live Well Counseling Center is proud to employ highly trained and skilled therapists who offer services that very few other practices provide. Click on the links below to learn more.

Alcohol and Drug Testing

With licensed alcohol and drug abuse counselors on staff, Live Well Counseling Center provides a continuum of services for adolescents and adults. We provide evaluations, education and outpatient treatment in addition to family care, relapse prevention, after-care and co-dependency treatment. We counsel addicts, children whose parents are struggling or are addicted to chemicals, adult children of alcoholics and addicts and others who are affected by addiction.

In addition, we can help parents or family members learn to recognize the signs and symptoms of substance abuse and depression. Assistance with confronting and/or intervening with loved ones is also available.

When a potential problem is identified, we provide chemical dependency evaluations for adolescents involved in the juvenile diversion program, adults involved with probation or parole and individuals who are concerned about their own or a family member's use of substances. We work closely with probation, parole and treatment providers to ensure the individual is referred to the appropriate level of care to assist with his/her substance use issues.

Divorce Services

Live Well Counseling Center has counselors who are licensed as marriage and family therapists, meaning we have more training, experience and expertise in marriage and family therapy than other disciplines. Relationships and couples are our specialty.

If a couple does decide that they would be better apart, Live Well Counseling Center can help each party adjust to the stress and changes brought by separation and divorce. Divorce counseling is mediation in preparation for parenting plans and divorce visitation schedules. It also involves preparing children to adjust to "mom's house/dad's house" and helping parents move on in a healthy way.

We can also help your children deal with your divorce and identify how they may be expressing stress related to the divorce/custody case. To this end, we offer a class for divorcing parents — a class which has become mandatory for divorcing parents in Nebraska.

Who’s Taking Care of the Children?
This is an interactive, energizing class that promotes brainstorming, problem solving and sharing as parents are re-oriented towards successful single parenting.

This class is designed to meet the court-ordered requirements in Nebraska for divorcing parents.  Our class offers parents the opportunity to focus on their children's needs during divorce/separation by reviewing the stress symptoms in children, designing goals for their children and identifying ways to reduce the stress by recognizing barriers and providing structure.

This class helps your child survive and thrive while helping you take care of yourself and move forward.

In our Grand Island office, this class is taught by our own motivational therapist, Carrie Sheldon. In Broken Bow, the class is offered by Jessica McCaslin. Through humor, lessons and practical experience, we strive to help you help your children in adjusting as easily as possible. The class consistently gets rave reviews. There is a waiting list, so we suggest pre-registration as class size is limited. This class is offered on Saturday mornings in our Grand Island, Kearney and Broken Bow offices. Dates and times vary depending upon group size. Please call to inquire.

Release of Vows Ceremony
To help give closure to a divorcing couple, Seanne Larson Emerton offers a Release of Vows ceremony. This ceremony assists in helping a divorcing couple let go and move forward in a healthy, baggage-free manner.

Emotional Intelligence (EQ-i)

Emotional intelligence is “any array of non-cognitive capabilities, competencies and skills that influences one's ability to succeed in coping with environmental demands and pressures" (Reuven Bar-On).

Live Well Counseling Center has the largest number of certified and trained EQ-i staff of any practice in the state of Nebraska. Our internationally trained therapists can assess emotional intelligence and help you maximize your individual, group and business potential. This is an innovative tool to increase individual, marital, team and/or company productivity, teamwork and profitability.

EQ-i is the ability to effectively know our own emotions and to appropriately regulate them so we can tolerate stress, express ourselves effectively and relate to others in a productive, positive manner. It gives us the ability to read our environment, grasp what others want and need, remain unruffled by stress and be engaging — the kind of person others want to be around.

Unlike IQ, which is a relatively fixed construct, individuals can grow, foster and develop their EQ (or EQ-i), which increases one’s ability to succeed and to be happy.

Interested in learning more about what it takes to be happy? Check out Martin Seligman's book, Authentic Happiness.

Happy people are healthier people. Happy people experience more success and show less absenteeism in work environments. They are more productive and have enhanced job satisfaction.

Emotional intelligence skills can be the key that leads to college success for students. That’s because one can enhance the ability to adapt and be flexible in a new environment with intention towards growing EQ-i.

“We are being judged by a new yardstick; not just how smart we are, or by our training and expertise, but also how well we handle ourselves and each other.” (Daniel Goleman, Ph.D.)

“EQ-i is the key to 27% to 46% of workplace success.” (Bar-on, MHS)

“For all levels of jobs, EQ-i competencies are twice as effective as IQ in determining an individual’s success rate.” (Daniel Goleman, Ph.D.)

“Eighty-five to 95 percent of the difference between a ‘good leader’ and an ‘excellent leader’ is due to emotional intelligence.” (Daniel Goleman, Ph.D.)
